Why a mobile detail is not just a car wash that comes to you

The difference is not convenience. It is how much of the vehicle anyone is allowed to touch.

Why a mobile detail is not just a car wash that comes to you

Most people meet a tunnel wash first, so that becomes the mental model for everything else. You pay, you roll through, brushes pass over the paint, hot air moves most of the water off, and eight minutes later the car looks better than it did. That is a real service and it has its place. It is also almost nothing like a detail.

A detail is measured in hours, not minutes, because the work is done by hand on one vehicle at a time by someone who is looking at it. Our entry package runs one to two hours. The middle one runs two to three. The top package runs three to four. None of those numbers are padding. They are what it takes to get into the places a machine cannot reach and would not know to look.

What the extra hours are actually spent on

Almost all of it is interior and edges. A tunnel wash cannot vacuum your trunk, and it certainly cannot get under the seat rails where the school run has been accumulating since spring. It cannot wipe the console, the dash and the door panels. It cannot clean the crevice where the seat belt buckle lives.

On the exterior, the difference is contact and judgment. A hand wash and dry means someone is choosing where to apply pressure and where not to. Wheels and tires get cleaned as their own job rather than as whatever the wash arch happens to hit. And the protection step is a decision rather than a default: a wet wax or ceramic detailer on the entry package, a hand or machine applied wax on the middle one.

  • Vacuuming that includes the trunk and cargo areas, not just the footwells
  • Console, dash and door panels wiped down by hand
  • Wheels and tires treated as a separate task with their own products
  • A protection step chosen for the vehicle rather than sprayed at every car identically
  • Windows cleaned properly, which mostly means cleaned from the inside too

Why the driveway matters more than you would think

We are 100% mobile. We come to your home or office with everything the job needs. The obvious benefit is that you do not lose an afternoon sitting in a waiting room, and that is genuinely the reason most people call. But there is a second benefit that only shows up once the work starts.

When the vehicle is at your house, you are there. If we find something, we can show you rather than describe it later on the phone. If you would rather we spent the extra time on the interior than on the wheels, you can say so while it still matters. On a drop off job you get a call at the end and a decision has already been made for you.

It also means the vehicle never has to move. That sounds trivial for a sedan. It stops being trivial the moment the vehicle is a travel trailer, a motorhome or a boat, which is a large part of why we do those at all.

Where a car wash is genuinely the right call

This is not an argument that you should never use a tunnel wash. If the car is basically clean and you want the salt, pollen or road film off it before the weekend, a wash is the correct tool and a detail is overkill. Detailing earns its money on the things a wash cannot fix: contamination bonded to the paint, odor, pet hair, oxidation, and interiors that have been lived in.

A useful rule of thumb is that a wash is maintenance and a detail is a reset. Most people want the reset once or twice a year and maintenance in between. If you are not sure which one your vehicle needs, describe it on the phone. It is a short conversation and it costs nothing to have.

What to expect when you book

Our services are by appointment. When you call, the useful things to have ready are the vehicle, roughly what condition it is in, and where it will be parked. Trucks, SUVs and third row vehicles carry a $25 addition on the car packages because they are genuinely more vehicle to work through.

Whatever you book, we stand behind the work and guarantee your satisfaction. If you are not completely happy with the result, we will do everything we can to make it right.
